Lift Operator
You must be totally alert at all times, safety oriented, and like people.  Even at 9:30AM when you have had only one cup of coffee, its snowing like a banshee, and you really wish you had stayed in bed after the alarm rang at 6:30AM. You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Listening IS part of communicating. Your next guest might just be your next boss!

You must have appropriate outer gear and footwear to work outside in inclement weather for long periods of time.  Shoveling snow, brushing snow off chairs, and smoothing unloading ramps should be considered key hobbies.

Kitchen Staff
Can you take direction easily and quickly? Are you good with cash? Can you multi-task? Can you cook, serve, manufacture home-cut french fries, run a cash register, answer questions, make freshly-ground coffee, and smile all at the same time?

Ski and/or Snowboard Instructors
Do you have good communication skills? Do you not only enjoy skiing/boarding, but also get great satisfaction helping others progress to the point where they enjoy it as much as you? Are you patient? Can you find different ways of communicating the same message, both verbally, and by example, if the message doesn't take the first time? Are you safety oriented, and know how to look after people, whether they are adults scared out of their mind because they are on a board for the first time at the age of "Do I have to say, or is OLD good enough for the paperwork?",  or someone somewhat younger who thinks they can fly just like those cool folks in the Banff Mountain Film Festival films? We are especially looking for part-time instructional staff that can help out with our school groups on Thursdays & Fridays during the period late January - early April.

Ticket Seller - Guest Services
Experience (and patience!) with a computerized cash register system. Good with numbers. Excellent communication skills, in person, on the phone, and on the hand-held radio. Ability to multitask, e.g., sell a lift ticket, take a Season PassHolder's photo, troubleshoot the printer, and handle a radio call simultaneously.   Deal with customers that didn't dress quite right for the day, whose current mission is to hold you personally responsible for the snow-pack(depth, density, consistency, & grooming), the falling temperature, the variable winds, the changing visibility, and the disappearing sun that was shining brightly when the Snow Report was prepared 2 hours ago.

Just some of our EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

- Hanging out and working with a very cool bunch of folks, just like yourself, in a fun, hard-working atmosphere. And a boss that tells great "Staff--only" stories at the morning meeting.

- Working for a small resort, that is interested in your ideas, no matter how off the wall they are, that might make a guest's visit just a little more incredible. Once the safety and business-of-the-day items are covered off, its free-for-all time at the morning meeting. If you have a new idea, make sure you have considered all angles - especially from the guest's perspective. Be willing to support your idea. Be willing to have it shredded by everybody else. And then be game to help rebuild it, massage it, tweak it, to the point where it is do-able, manageable, test-able, & affordable. The real rehashing happens every Sunday afternoon, as the sun gets low in the sky, and each guest makes their way homeward. Once the lifts are stopped, the mountain has gone quiet, the parking lot has emptied, and the only sound may be the imperceptible rustling silk of the northern lights, a fresh log is put on the fire. The boss buys us all an (age-appropriate) after-shifter, and we get to relax for a few moments, after what likely has been a busy day and a busy week.

- Working for an organization that has a zero turnover rate amongst its continuing employees :)

- Free skiing/riding  on your off-time any working day. Some days you will have lots, and others days you will be lucky to get one ride in from the top station of the yellow chair, to your mid-day assignment amid the chaos of the lunch-time lodge crowd.

- Free coffee (freshly-ground) at the 8:30AM morning meeting.   Just to make sure you're awake and alert. (Or tea, or hot chocolate). Preference to prospective employees that bring their own reusable coffee cup.

- After working a probationary period, a FREE (value of up to $725.00) Season's Pass at Purden Ski Resort for the balance of the 2009/2010 season.

- Free rental equipment, subject to availability.

- Free boarding/skiing lessons, based on a standby basis.

- Staff pricing at the cafeteria.

- For top station liftys, an office with an incredible view

- And last, but definitely not least:

For employees who have successfully completed their probationary period, and have been issued with the much-coveted  2009/2010 Purden Ski Resort Staff Season's Pass:

    - 19% - 100% discount on lift passes at numerous resorts throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Washington, & Ontario.

    - 15% discounts on heli-skiing in the Coast Mountains of BC on your days off (plus some wickedly cheap standby rates)

    - 33 1/3% discount on a condo rental in San Jose del Cabo, Baja, Mexico

    - 10%+ discounts on ocean kayaking expeditions with selected outfitters in the Queen Charlotte Islands (British Columbia), the Canadian Arctic, Tonga & the  Caribbean (Belize)
